ANAL SAC PROBLEMS

The dog have two glands located just inside the rectum beside the anus , that produces a secretion which smells bad. The exact function of the secretion is not known, but it may play a role in territorial marking.

Symptom: Scooting,: dragging their anal areal, licking or biting at the area, Tail chasing, swollen area on either side of the anus, bloody or sticky, smelly discharge from the anus or from ruptured anal glands.

Treatment/ What can I do? Impacted anal glands are treated by having them manually express the anal sacs.

For anal sac infections, treatment requires anal sac expression, maybe antibiotics, and possibly flushing of the sac with antibacterial solutionssedated.
